Digital Portfolio

Rhino (Aluminium) - This sculptural piece was constructed in 3 days during the 3D Block on my Foundation Course. The brief was "Animals", and I wanted to create something that was individual to me, using an ambitious sense of scale. I also created a foam backboard to create the illusion that the rhino was bursting out.

Banana Pants/Melonkini (Foam, Paper Mache and Paper) - This set of sculptures was designed and created in the Fashion Block of my Foundation Course with a brief of "Fruit and Vegetables". I took a humourous approach and linked my ideas to the work of Sarah Lucas, who often uses sexual metaphors to create humour and discuss sex and gender.

Abandoned Phonebox (Oil on Canvas) - This painting was done for my AS project on Age and Decay. Its painted on a heavily textured surface created with sand and glue.

Stone Lion and Great Wall (acrylic on canvas) - In Easter 2009 I went to China which gave me some great images for my A Level Exam Project - "Exotic Environment". I used Adobe Photoshop to develop and prepare the image for the canvas and then completed it in the 15 hour exam.

Limestone (Pencil) - This ornamental piece of lime stone rock was in a garden in China. Its alien form leant itself well to my exotic environment project. It is one of my strongest pieces of pencil work.

Life Drawings (Pencil) - During the Fine Art week of the Foundation Course we had intensive life drawing sessions, in which I greatly improved my observation skills and drawing technique.

Life Drawing/Mark Making (acrylic on paper)- The first specialist project in Fine Art was an experimental one looking at different methods of using the paint. Using a figurative base of one of my life drawings, I smeared and streaked the paint to create a thick, fleshy effect.

Strangle yourself to death (Acrylic on Paper)- Working from a photograph I painted this self portrait in response to my own concept of a paradox. I used a similar painting technique and dramatic colouring as I did in my experimental work (see above).

Puzzled (Self Portrait Acrylic on Paper) - I wanted to continue from my previous painting, exploring facial expressions and using a 'blocky' painting style, similar to that of Lucian Freud. Working from a photo allowed me to work in detail on key features such as the eyes and mouth.

Eyes Close Up (Acrylic on Paper)- I painted this zoomed in picture of the eyes from the previous painting to explore the benefits of working from a high definition photograph, and putting enhanced detail into the painting.

First Impression (Self Portrait Oil on Canvas)- This is the final piece of my project on painting from photography. I wanted to use the photo to get lots of detail into my painting in the style of Hyper Realism painters, such as Chuck Close. However, I also wanted to use digital manipulation to create an image that would challenge how people look at things. It has been interesting to see how different people react to the painting, as some see nothing wrong with the image other than it being upside down. But when you flip it...

FINE ART - I am interested in doing this course as I feel it will give me the freedom to take my art in whichever direction I want. I have multiple interests in painting and 3D work, and would like to continue to develop my art practice in these disciplines, and to create a basis of conceptual and visual art.
